I use vintage patterns, some of which belonged to my grandmother, with today's fabrics and yarns. I take vintage needlework magazines and work from the patterns in them. The magazines date from 1912 through to the fifties, and I try and use the patterns from them as they would have been originally used. Sometimes I will adapt them and make something else. I prefer to specialize with the thirties and forties patterns and occasionally dip my toe into the fifties.

When I feel the need to bring things up to date, sometimes adapting the original vintage patterns. I also design my own patterns so you can make lovely items too.

Cushion

Do you remember this?
Now it is an Art Deco style Round Cushion.  The cushion back is dark strawberry coloured pure linen.  Cushion size is 17" (43cm) diameter.

Shopping Bag

An Art Deco style Shopping Bag. I have created this bag from an original 1944 design, it is made with pink linen and silk fabric, lined with heavy cotton fabric.
The decoration is stitched with 100% tapestry wool. The bag size is 13" (3cm) x 13" (33cm) approximately.

  1. So lovely to see these projects coming to life again Julie. They're far too lovely to be neglected in magazines. They look so pretty. x

  4. Hello Julie.

Please forgive me for contacting you this way; I can see no email address or contact details on your Pinterest profile. A while back you pinned one of my paintings; magnolia. It was such a treat to see my work appreciated (it as an item which did not sell in my autumn exhibition; so I would like you to have it. Could you please let me have your postal address and I shall send it to you?

    Bella. X
